"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think"
- Albert Einstein
Algebra 2

"The most powerful single idea in mathematics is the notion of a variable."
Description:
The goal of this course is to explain the visual graphic representation of higher-order functions and complex rates of change. The skills they learn will prove helpful in school work and subsequent pre-calculus and calculus classes. Additionally, they will be useful in standardized testing, such as the SAT Subject Tests.
The students will review basic concepts such as equations and inequalities, the coordinate system and functions of multiple variables. Students will examine these topics in greater depth, along with quadratic functions and factoring. The course provides an intense study of polynomials, including complex numbers and fractional exponents. Students will learn to graph rational equations and conic sections such as parabolas, ellipses, hyperbolas and more. They will be able to translate and classify these conic sections based on both their graphs and their equations. The course will provide a structured introduction to logarithmic functions and other concepts of higher-level math that provides the basis of calculus and other advanced math topics. The course will cover data analysis, statistics, probability, sequences and series.

ALGEBRA 2
Algebra 2 is considered by many to be one of the most challenging math courses students can take during their high school years. Concepts become significantly more abstract than students have experienced in their previous math classes. Consequently, students typically must put forth more effort than they have before in their math courses. It has been my experience that many students initially feel overwhelmed by the course during the early stages before adapting to what is necessary to succeed in the course. As a result, it is my recommendation that students ask about what they need to do to be successful and seek extra help as soon as they feel it is necessary.
